This trip taught me a powerful lesson about relinquishing control and placing things fully into God’s hands. I was deeply moved by the loveliness of the people of Roatán and by their implicit trust. On multiple occasions, patients who were already blind from severe glaucoma immediately trusted my recommendation to proceed with glaucoma laser treatment—without hesitation, without fear.

That kind of trust profoundly impacted me. It placed a desire in my heart to strive for that same childlike trust in our God. As Jesus reminds us:

“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
