Each year for the past three years, a group of doctors and surgical technicians — across different coasts in the US — have come together to Roatan, Honduras for one shared purpose: to restore sight through cataract surgery. Though we live miles apart, the mission pulls us together like family. The days are long, the conditions not always easy, but no one ever complains. We carry each other, encourage one another, and laugh in the in-between moments. Every patient’s smile after surgery reminds us why we return. Before we know it, friends become family, and we leave not only having given sight — but having seen more clearly ourselves.
