March 2025
This is our seventh trip to Roatan. My husband and I have fallen in love with the people and the island. This trip was a little different as we were leading our own team for the first time, our first day in the clinic was a bit slower than usual and at first we felt a bit discouraged. Towards the end of the first day, Mr. William Connor came in for a routine eye exam. Everyone else had already been seen and he was our last patient of the day. He proceeded to tell us how his wife had just recently passed away and went into his entire testimony and how she had vastly impacted his life by her faith. What started out as us being disappointed in the slowness of the clinic day quickly turned into a reminder of WHY we do this. Mr. Connor came to us for an eye exam but needed so much more. He needed to be seen, to be heard, to feel the love of Jesus wrap around him that day and that is just what we were able to do. We were able to slow down, meet him right where he was and love him in that moment. As the week progressed so did the clinic, surgeries and patients. Wow what a blessing it is to be able to serve God all while loving on the sweet population here.
