Ninani Kombo

We just completed another successful mission trip to Roatan.    A team of 21 (4 ophthalmologists, 1 nurse, 2 technicians, and a bunch of eager family and support staff) came together for a week of service.   In addition to patient care in the clinic, our youth went to Punta Gorda and sponsored a youth sports day with Ryan a pastor at the Legacy Center.    Teams also performed eye screenings at the Elaine Curtis Center at the Mudhole community and at a school in Pandy Town.  There we identified patients with eye issues, while educating the community the importance of  basic eye health care and access to our services.   By the end of the week, we performed 34 cataract surgeries  4 pterygium removals, 180 patient exams in the clinic and 80 more at our community screenings.     Lives were changed and friendships and memories were created.

On this trip we welcomed Dr Ninani Kombo, an ophthalmologist at Yale, along with her family.   Of her experience, Ninani writes, “The first time I heard about the Health in Sight Mission, I knew I wanted to be part of a mission trip. Three years later, my family and I had the incredible opportunity to join Paul (Dr. Kang) and the HISM team in Roatan. This experience has truly been life-changing! It’s such a blessing to serve others with the gifts you’ve been given. The cataract surgeries we performed were a powerful testament to God’s grace.

I was especially grateful to have my family alongside me in this journey.

The people we served in Roatan will forever be changed, and so will I. I made new friends, deepened existing relationships, and paved the way for future mission work.”

Dr Hylton Mayer and his family returned for their second mission trip.  Dr Donald Gauldin from Arkansas also joined for the first time.

We are extremely grateful for our volunteers and all of our donors.  It is thrilling to watch our mission outreach expand, but we realize that there is still much work to be done.   We are so fortunate to have wonderful partners while we answer our calling together.
